Life writes the best stories: For years, ex-kickboxer Andrew Tate made a name for himself as a misogynist and braggart – then he messed with Greta Thunberg and tripped over his own feet.
“Pride comes before a fall”, this wisdom was already in the Bible. Professional braggart Andrew Tate doesn’t seem to have a thing for books, though. In the past, the former competitive athlete made a name for himself with a mock macho image, inhuman content and extremely expensive courses for his fans who want to become just like him. Emory Andrew Tate III, his full name, was not always a public figure – at times he made his money with kickboxing. And then reality TV came his way.
From kickboxer to rip-off
Andrew Tate was born in 1986. His father, Emory Andrew Tate Jr., was an American chess champion who won over 80 tournaments in his career. He died in 2015 at the age of 56. Tate’s mother reportedly worked as a kitchen hand.
Andrew Tate began his martial arts career at the age of 19. In order to keep his head above water, he is said to have participated in TV productions. Just four years later, Tate won his first championship and was ranked number one in his division in Europe. In 2013, when he won his second world championship title, he had reached the peak of his kickboxing career – and retired from the sport.
Andrew Tate received a lot of attention around three years later when he moved into the British Big Brother house. Tiktok and Instagram popularized Andrew Tate
He built his reputation as a ruthless macho and misogynist on social platforms. From 2017 to 2021, Tate attacked depressed people, defended convicted sex offender Harvey Weinstein, and said things like “Eighteen-year-olds are more attractive than 25-year-olds because they’re not as used” or “Women should shut up, have children, Sit at home, be quiet and make coffee.” For him, Tate made it very clear to his followers, women were the property of men.
Because Andrew Tate wanted to grab attention with more and more extreme statements and win more and more fans beyond his followers, the ex-kickboxer finally managed to fly from all social media platforms. In August of this year he lost his access to Instagram, Facebook, Youtube and even Tiktok – his most far-reaching mouthpiece.
Tate then tried to justify himself, claiming his statements had always been taken out of context. He himself then went to other platforms like Gettr or Rumble, while his fans continued to spread the content on the big platforms.
Tate was delighted when his Twitter account was reactivated after Elon Musk took over the company due to a quasi-general amnesty. Tate immediately began to spread his crude theories and sought the big stage. He bought Twitter Blue to get the blue tick and got started – after all, his account has reached 3.6 million Twitter users to date.
No matter how tall you are, Thunberg is Greta
Ironically, what he considers a brilliant argument with climate activist Greta Thunberg now seems to cost him his freedom. On December 27, he wrote to her publicly, boasted about his car collection and offered Thunberg to send her a list of his cars and their emissions data – of course as a sign that environmental protection is not important to him.
Thunberg replied shortly: “Yes, please enlighten me. Email me at smalldickenergy@getalife.com”. The Greta tweet quickly became famous around the world and after just a few days was among the 10 most popular tweets in history with 3.3 million “likes”.
Tate, who publicly stated that he was happy about the great attention, did not seem to be able to let the climate protectionist’s success and swipe sit on him. He pushed a video.
With a cigar and a red bathrobe, he turned back to Greta Thunberg, not particularly clever. Asked why her email address said she had a small penis – a counter that couldn’t have been worse. However, it seems that Tate did himself a disservice by the high media presence, and the scandalous influencer was arrested a little later (read more here). The allegations weigh heavily
In April of this year, Tate’s house in Romania was the target of a raid. The US embassy had warned police that Tate was holding two women at his home who were being held there against their will. In fact, the two were found and both stated that they were not there voluntarily. Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan were questioned but later released. They denied breaking the law.
Yesterday there was another house search in Romania. The accusation: suspicion of human trafficking, rape and formation of a criminal organization in Romania. The investigation is ongoing.
