Vaccination: Sinovac less effective than Biontech’s corona vaccine

People who were vaccinated against Covid-19 with Biontech had “significantly higher” antibody levels than those vaccinated, the “South China Morning Post” reported on Saturday, citing a study by the University of Hong Kong (HKU). In some cases, Sinovac may need a third refresher. Most recently, doubts had arisen about the effectiveness of the Sinovac vaccine against more infectious mutations of the virus, such as the Delta variant, which was first detected in India. In Indonesia, authorities recently said that more than 350 health care workers were infected with the coronavirus despite having been vaccinated with Sinovac. Most of those affected had shown no symptoms, but dozens had to go to clinics for treatment.

In the international vaccination program since the beginning of June

At the beginning of June, the World Health Organization (WHO) granted the Sinovac vaccine as the second vaccine made in China an emergency approval. This means that the agent can be used by the international Covax vaccination program, which supplies poorer countries with Coran vaccines. It is produced in a conventional way, while the vaccine from the Mainz company Biontech and its US partner Pfizer is based on the new MRNA technology.
