What happened at the Westin Hotel in Leipzig? The employee, accused of anti-Semitism by singer Gil Ofarim, has now filed a complaint himself – for defamation.
In connection with the anti-Semitism allegations in a Leipzig hotel, the accused employee has now filed charges of defamation. The man described the incident with the artist Gil Ofarim “clearly deviating from the statements made by the musician,” said police spokesman Olaf Hoppe. The police have not yet given any more precise information about the course of the incident.
The hotel employee had also filed a second threat because people on social networks had expressed themselves completely unleashed to the hotel staff. In addition, the police had received an online complaint from an uninvolved third party for sedition.
Gil Ofarim has not yet filed a complaint
The Leipzig public prosecutor’s office and the criminal police had started all investigations, said Hoppe. “Now we have to wait and see what the investigations reveal and what actually happened that day.” Gil Ofarim has so far not filed a complaint – neither against the employees nor against the hotel.
The musician posted a video on Instagram on Tuesday in which he described an anti-Semitic incident in the hotel “The Westin”. Accordingly, an employee had asked him on Monday evening to remove his chain with the Star of David, then he could check in. “It is not the first incident in my life in which I have been confronted with xenophobia, with anti-Semitism. But I think: Once upon a time there was too much,” said the 39-year-old on Wednesday in Bild TV.
