Frauke Ludowig: That’s her best household trick

Because of help! Frauke Ludowig mostly runs her household on her own. “My house is my refuge,” said the moderator.

A successful career, wife and mother of two children and a proud dog owner for over a year – Frauke Ludowig (57) rarely gets bored in everyday life. In addition, the presenter also throws her household largely on her own. “I’m not a cleaning man,” said the 57-year-old at a Dyson press event with daughter Nele and order expert Nadine Meyer. “But I am anxious that everything stays beautiful.” In an interview, she reveals how she succeeds.

What surely surprises many fans is that you run your household almost completely alone in the family. Why don’t you get support?

Frauke Ludowig: My house is my refuge. Even more so since the pandemic, we feel very comfortable here. It is our four walls that offer us security and protection and of course reveal a lot of personal information about us. That’s why I don’t necessarily want to involve someone else. But I really enjoy doing it too. I only get help with cleaning windows.

Would you describe yourself as a cleaning devil?

Ludowig: No, I’m not a cleaning devil. But I enjoy the fact that where I live is clean and tidy. That’s how I learned it from my parents and I want to pass that on to my children. My parents’ house is still there today because it was well looked after and that’s half the battle.

Which housework are particularly annoying for you?

Ludowig: Ironing isn’t exactly one of my greatest hobbies and I often put it off a bit. I thought about getting a steamer in the hope that it would be easier. There are women who are fantastic at ironing, but I am not one of them. What I don’t mind at all is vacuuming.

What are your best household tricks?

Ludowig: I don’t know if it can be called a trick. I prefer to clean briefly regularly than to have a major cleaning day once a month. Everything that can be done quickly in between – vacuuming once, loading and unloading the dishwasher – shouldn’t be postponed. My trick, if you will, is this daily routine. This tip was also given to me by tidiness expert Nadine Meyer, whom I got to know through the campaign with Dyson. Integrating simple routines into his everyday life, such as bringing things back to where they belong in the evening. That is often a good basis.

How do your husband and two daughters help?

Ludowig: There are four of us and now there are even five with a dog. Everyone has their jobs. For example, my husband is passionate about doing the garden, I am passionate about the laundry and the dishes. The children tidy up their rooms and take care of the dog. And of course we support each other wherever we can.

How much is your dog Cooper upsetting your family life?

Ludowig: He doesn’t mix anything up at all. He just stirs up beautiful dust – we really love him very much. It’s a real asset, I would never have thought it possible. I really had to be convinced by my husband and the children back then. Of course, a dog like that also does a lot of work. He hardly loses any hair, but after a walk, the dirt from outside is often spread across the apartment. Then the dog is quickly showered and vacuumed once so that the dirt does not stick.

Did Corona play a role in the acquisition of Cooper?

Ludowig: No, actually not. We had thought about it beforehand and then Corona came. Now we have become one of many families who have a Corona dog. But actually it was already clear beforehand that we would get one.

Career, marriage, children, dog, … is there any time for yourself?

Ludowig: Sometimes not a lot, but I really don’t know anything else. In the meantime you are conditioned to do it. Of course, sometimes I would like to have a little more time for myself. But I’m totally happy with my life, just as it is and in that respect it’s all good.

How do you like to relax?

Ludowig: When everyone has flown out – that happens every now and then – I prefer to go into the bathtub.
