In his autobiography, DJ Ötzi remembers his difficult start in life. The pop singer was homeless in his early 20s.
DJ Ötzi (50) is known above all as a good-humored mood-maker, with hits like “Hey Baby” or “Anton aus Tirol” he made his breakthrough in the early 2000s. In his autobiography “Lifestyle” (published on October 19) the pop singer, bourgeois Gerry Friedle, now remembers gloomy times from his past.
Even the start in life was difficult: as a baby, his then 17-year-old mother gave him away; he was the result of a one-night stand. He was also unable to develop a good relationship with his father. An argument with his grandfather led DJ Ötzi to end up on the street at the age of 20 – to blame was an unhappy love.
DJ Ötzi had to beg and “sleep under bridges”
“I was so crazy that I didn’t listen to anyone”, Ötzi tells the magazine “Bunte”. His beloved was married at the time and had a child. That’s why his grandfather, “a very strict man, a gendarme by profession”, put him out of the door. “I gave up everything just to be with this woman,” recalls Gerry Friedle. He “slept in cellars” and “under bridges” and even went begging.
With the love for this woman he “destroyed himself”. Other relationships always ended in tragedy. “I really loved all of my women. But lost,” says the Tyrolean. But then Sonja Kien (45) came into his life. He married the music manager in 2001 when he was 30 years old. In 2002 their daughter, Lisa-Marie (19), was born. “I am so grateful that Sonja has been with me for so long,” says Gerry Friedle. “Because it’s not easy with me.” She not only married him, “but also my whole story”.
