He had a legend as a father, and it was not always easy: Simon Messner did not have it easy as a child.
The son of the South Tyrolean extreme mountaineer Reinhold Messner spoke about his childhood.
“It was not easy to be the son of a legend,” said Simon Messner of the Italian newspaper “Corriere della Sera”. Everyone sees Reinhold Messner as a myth, but as a child you don’t need a legend, you need a father, and he never was, said the mountaineer and film producer. The early 30-year-old described his father in the interview as “strict” and “absent”.
Simon Messner actually studied molecular biology and claims to live with his girlfriend in the Austrian city of Innsbruck. He started climbing when he was a teenager and has so far climbed mountains in the Alps, Oman and Nepal. Together with his father Reinhold he makes documentaries, among other things about famous and dangerous mountain tours of his father in earlier years. On the set, father Reinhold is the “boss”, continued Simon.
