Corona pandemic: Nationwide seven-day incidence remains at 5.0

The health authorities have reported 212 new corona infections to the Robert Koch Institute, a week ago the value was 219 infections. Pandemic experts warn of a trend reversal because of the delta variant.

The nationwide seven-day incidence of new corona infections is stagnating at a low level. As the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) announced, citing information from the health authorities, the incidence was five cases per 100,000 inhabitants, as on the previous day. On Monday last week, the RKI determined an incidence of 5.6.

As the RKI further announced, 212 new corona infections and one death related to the virus were registered within 24 hours. The total number of corona infections recorded in Germany since the beginning of the pandemic is 3,731,124, the number of corona deaths is 91,031. The RKI puts the number of those recovered from a corona infection at around 3,629,300.

A cause for concern: the Delta variant

As a rule, the number of new infections on the weekend and on Monday is lower than the weekly average, because fewer tests are carried out on the weekends and fewer test results are transmitted.

Despite the currently low number of corona cases, the spread of the particularly contagious delta variant of the corona virus is cause for concern. According to the RKI, the proportion of infections with the variant first detected in India doubled again to 37 percent, according to the RKI, according to the most recent figures from the third week of June.
