Woman has her ears rinsed – doctor finds 22-year-old tube

Jordan, 26, went to the doctor with a cold. A routine ear irrigation provided a real surprise there.

Actually, 26-year-old Jordan only had a cold. She felt dull, had a headache and sinus pressure. So she made her way to the ENT doctor so that he could check that everything was going well and hopefully give her some relief. The doctor took care of the cold symptoms as far as possible. He also decided to rinse Jordan’s ears once.

What is actually a routine treatment, which is only supposed to free the ear canals of excess ear wax, brought to light something disturbing in the case of the young woman: The doctor took an object from her ears that had been there for a good 22 years: “small tubes”, Jordan later described it on TikTok, and in fact they were so-called “ventilation tubes”. They are often used in children when the connection between the ear and the nasal smoking area is not sufficiently developed to ventilate the inner ear. Fluid then forms in the ear, which, if left untreated, can lead to major health problems. Ventilation tubes here preventively provide the necessary ventilation.

Object in the ears – for 22 years

Jordan actually got such tubes when she was four years old. Actually, they should fall out by themselves after 12 months at the latest and not cause any further problems. “But that never happened,” says Jordan. She was completely surprised after the treatment at the doctor – she “had no idea that you can hear so well!” For 22 years she had lived with a blockage in her ears, heard everything muffled – and thought that was normal. She shared her unusual story on TikTok – and also showed the tubes the doctor rinsed out of her ears.

By the way, Jordan doesn’t seem to be the only one who had such a problem with her ventilation tubes. Many other people spoke up under their video on TikTok. “Mine made a hole in my eardrum at the time and I needed an operation to mend it,” someone writes. Another comment says: “I got some when I was ten and the doctor was supposed to take them out again, but forgot. Twelve years later they had to be removed from me.” The creepy stories prompted one user to comment: “Oh god, I hope mine aren’t in there anymore? I got three pairs when I was little!”

In any case, it has been shown here that an occasional visit to the ENT doctor can’t do any harm – maybe we’ll all have our ears rinsed out, just to be on the safe side …
