In her new book, Emily Ratajkowski reveals that she was reduced to her beauty in childhood.
The obsession with her appearance began when Emily Ratajkowski was born, as the model reveals in his book “My Body”.
Her mother often told her that even the delivering doctor was delighted with her beauty. Allegedly, the day after the birth, he brought his own children to the hospital to see the “beautiful baby”.
Emily Ratajkowski: Mom was obsessed with how she looked
It should be normal for parents to be in love with their children, but Ratajkowski’s case has always been about looks, she says. Her parents in particular were fixated on that. As an only child, she often heard from her own mother how beautiful she was in her teenage years. The English teacher told her daughter, according to the book, of “admiring boys who stood on the lawn under their bedroom window in high school”. The girls, on the other hand, were all jealous.
“I tried to gauge where my parents thought I belonged in the world of beauties,” writes Ratajkowski in “My Body”. “It seemed to be important to both of them, especially to my mother, that their daughter is perceived as beautiful,” reveals the mother of one son. As a teenager she prayed to God that he would make her the “most beautiful”.
Even as a teenager, staged sexy
Ratajkowski began her modeling career at the age of 14. Her mother loved it. She also always told her daughter when the men looked at her. “I was a child, but somehow already an expert in recognizing male desire, even if I didn’t quite understand what to make of it,” writes Ratajkowski. As she got older, she found the fact that she was obviously staged sexy in photo productions to please male customers. Your mother seemed to like it.
Today Ratajkowski thinks differently about her image of the sex symbol. “It had never occurred to me that the women who gained their power through beauty were indebted to the men whose desire had given them that power in the first place,” she writes. “These men were the ones in control, not the women who were swarmed by the world,” explains the model.
“Facing the reality of the dynamic at play here would have been admitting how limited my power really was – how limited the power of any woman is when she survives in the world and even succeeds as something that you can look at it, “says Ratajkowski. With her book, Ratajkowski wants to regain some of the power that she has lost over the years.
