In addition to Phoenix, confirmed cast members for the film include Nathan Lane, Patti LuPone, Amy Ryan, Kylie Rogers, Parker Posey, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Hayley Squires, Michael Gandolfini, Zoe Lister-Jones, and Richard Kind.
Phoenix comes to this film after winning the Best Actor Oscar for his role as Joker, a role he is currently reprising in the filming of the sequel “Joker: Folie à Deux” in which he will star alongside Lady Gaga.
“Beau Is Afraid”which was previously titled “Disappointment Blvd”is Aster’s third collaboration with A24, after their successful horror hits “hereditary” Y “Midsummer”, which were released in 2018 and 2019, respectively. In the first, which was also Aster’s feature directorial debut, he directed a cast that included Toni Collette, Alex Wolff, Milly Shapiro and Gabriel Byrne as a family that is apparently haunted by a mysterious presence after their grandmother dies. Starring Florence Pugh, “Midsummer” follows a couple who travel to Sweden for a flower-filled summer festival that turns out to be a lot darker than it seems.
Aster wrote the screenplay for “Beau Is Afraid” In addition to producing with lars knudson. The film will be released on April 21 in the United States, there is still no confirmed date for Argentina.
