Jürgen Drews: Florian Silbereisen is worried about his health

Jürgen Drews says goodbye to the big stage. The hit star suffers from a nervous disease. His colleague and friend Florian Silbereisen is worried.

After 55 years, Jürgen Drews says goodbye to the big stage. The hit star had already ended his career for health reasons last year. Now he gets a big farewell gala on TV – and then it’s really over for the “King of Mallorca”.

But what’s next for Drews after that? His friend Florian Silbereisen is worried about the 77-year-old. Drews suffers from the neurological disease polyneuropathy, which can lead to motor disorders or impair the function of internal organs. “The long daily journeys are sometimes exhausting and there were days when Jürgen was just tired, exhausted and broken,” reported Silbereisen to the “Express” about joint tour experiences from the past year.

Silbereisen also moderates the big farewell gala for Drews on Saturday in the first. The 41-year-old and the Schlager legend (“Ein Bett im Kornfeld”) have a close friendship. “Jürgen and I have gotten to know each other very well in recent years. I appreciate him very much and if Jürgen needs me, then I’ll be there,” says Silbereisen. “Jürgen is a very sensitive and profound person. He can have a really big party both on and behind the stage, as well as a quiet, intensive conversation about life, politics, the environment and aging. He’s just a fine guy.”

But Drews’ strength is fading more and more, the end of his career was the logical consequence. His 49-year-old wife Ramona gave the 77-year-old support, Silbereisen told the “Express”. With her by his side, Drews “felt two heads taller and ten years younger”: “She is his source of strength, his fountain of youth, his better half and the two are so loving to each other that I have rarely seen, even in couples who have just fallen in love . He defends her like a lion and she cares for him like a lioness. To me they are a real dream couple.”

Drews had announced the end of his career in the summer on a show by Florian Silbereisen. “Because I’m at an age when others have long since retired, I said to myself: ‘Dear Uncle Jürgen, someday it’ll be good,'” Drews said at the time. “I’ll go without a murmur, I’ve got my Ramona.” He had his last live performance on October 6th. Many old companions appear at the big farewell gala on ARD, including Thomas Anders, Maite Kelly and Roland Kaiser.
