Quarrel between Meghan and Kate over Charlotte’s dress: that’s what the tailor says

The bridesmaids’ dresses caused a dispute between Meghan and her sister-in-law Kate in 2018. Prince Harry writes about the altercation in his book. Now the tailor who was involved at the time has also spoken up.

It’s a detail that made headlines on the fringes of Prince Harry and his wife Meghan’s 2018 wedding and is now being discussed again with the release of Harry’s memoir, Spare, just days before the ceremony Meghan and her sister-in-law Kate got into a fight. It was about the dresses of the bridesmaids, which included Kate’s daughter Charlotte.

The British press wrote at the time that Meghan had made Prince William’s wife cry with her demands. Prince Harry now describes the situation in his book very differently: it was not Kate, but Meghan, who was in tears. As evidence, he quotes from a conversation between the two women.

Now the tailor who changed the dresses for the six bridesmaids has spoken up. “Weddings are stressful and especially one at this high level. You have to respect that. They faced a problem that everyone faces at a wedding – last minute mishaps. I can understand getting excited when the dresses don’t fit. It’s nerve-wracking,” Ajay Mirpuri told the British newspaper Daily Mail. He didn’t notice anything about the dispute between Meghan and Kate.

However, he confirmed that all six dresses, which, like Meghan’s wedding dress, came from the luxury label Givenchy, had to be changed afterwards. That was one of Kate’s demands, according to Harry’s book. Not only Charlotte’s dress was “too wide, too long and too bulky”. The children’s outfits “were French couture and hand-sewn purely to measure, so it wasn’t too bad a surprise if changes were needed,” writes Harry in Spare.

In the end, however, it was not Givenchy employees who did the work, but tailor Ajay Mirpuri and his team. “I’m a royalist and I wanted to do everything I could with my small business to serve the royal family. We just put our heads up and said, ‘Now we’re here and we have to fix it for Britain to be good that day there it is.’ If that book hadn’t come out, nobody would have known it was us,” he told the Daily Mail.

Bridesmaids’ dresses were changed four days before the wedding

Four days before Harry and Meghan’s wedding, Mirpuri and his people started altering the dresses. “Four of us worked until 4am three nights in a row getting them fitted. We left Windsor Castle at 10pm the night before the wedding. Did anyone complain about the bridesmaids’ dresses and looks on the wedding day? The The answer is no,” said the tailor whose lies.

Harry and Meghan had six bridesmaids in total, all of whom wore a similar white dress. In addition to Princess Charlotte, there were Harry’s goddaughters Florence van Cutsem and Zalie Warren and three girls from Meghan’s circle of friends, including Ivy Mulroney, daughter of her then best friend Jessica Mulroney.

There was only one question that tailor Ajay Mirpuri didn’t want to answer: how much it cost to change the clothes and who wore them. “I’m not going to reveal that, nor who paid the bill. I can’t say if it was four or five figures. But whoever made the mistake paid the bill,” he clarified.
