Memory of a supermodel

Along with colleagues like Cindy Crawford and Naomi Campbell, Patitz was one of the most successful supermodels of the 80s and 90s. She graced the front pages of numerous major fashion magazines, was seen in George Michael’s famous music video for his hit “Freedom” and became known above all through pictures by star photographer Peter Lindbergh.

Colleagues like Claudia Schiffer, Cindy Crawford and Helena Christensen expressed their grief on Wednesday. “She was a real member of the supermodel gang and it’s hard to understand that someone left us so young,” wrote Schiffer (52) on Instagram. “It was a pleasure to work with her”. They were “babies in the fashion industry” and practically grew up together, Crawford (56) wrote about joint photos of the young models on Instagram. Patitz was sensitive, kind and curious, with unforgettable piercing eyes.

Christensen (54) recalled Patitz’ “divine spirit”. They laughed a lot together and felt connected through their shared love of nature. Fashion designer Wolfgang Joop wrote in a “Spiegel” post: “This face was unforgettable. It’s unforgettable.” Patitz’ look is magical. Patitz’s death made her “deeply sad,” wrote the foundation of star photographer Peter Lindbergh (1944-2019). Her “goodness, inner beauty and outstanding intelligence” must be remembered.

Patitz was born in Hamburg on March 25, 1966 to an Estonian mother and a German father and grew up in Sweden. She later moved to California in the coastal town of Malibu and landed a few film roles as well. Patitz had a son from a divorced marriage with a businessman.
