Jürgen Drews ends his stage career. The hit star is looking forward to retirement – even if he only gets an extremely small pension. Nevertheless, he has taken precautions.
Jürgen Drews has been on stage for more than 50 years, now his music career is finally over. The ARD dedicates him a big farewell gala with many friends and companions on Saturday, moderated by Florian Silbereisen, with whom Drews has a close friendship.
Drews became known under the nickname “King of Mallorca”, his performances at Ballermann are legendary. However, the pension that the 77-year-old receives is not very royal – but rather measly. He only gets a “mini-pension,” Drews told “Bild” in 2020 for his 75th birthday: “That’s not even 200 euros. I can do that with Ramona (his wife, editor’s note) have a nice meal. That’s it.”

But although the pop star only has to be content with peanuts from the pension fund, nobody needs to worry about their financial situation. On the contrary: “I’ve made provisions and invested my money well,” said Drews almost three years ago. Hits like “Ein Bett im Kornfeld” should still be reliable money suppliers even when Drews is no longer performing live.
In the fall, Jürgen Drews announced the end of his career for health reasons. “Since I’m at an age when others have long since retired, I also said to myself, at some point, dear Uncle Jürgen, it’ll be good,” he explained his decision at the time. During the pandemic, he also found that he could live well without live performances.
Drews suffers from the neurological disease polyneuropathy, which can lead to motor disorders or impair the function of internal organs. However, the illness does not affect him, he assured before his stage farewell: “I’m doing very well. I have no pain and feel good. That’s the most important thing.” Going forward, Drews looks forward to enjoying his free time with his wife, Ramona. “I’ve been around for 50 years and my private life hasn’t been neglected, but I’ve never been able to take advantage of it the way I’ll take advantage of it now when I have no commitments,” Drews told MDR. At the big farewell gala in the first, Andy Borg, Thomas Anders, Maite Kelly and Roland Kaiser, among others, appear to pay tribute to the hit star.
