In addition, this season will be the one that marks the return of two emblematic characters. First of all, Addison Montgomery, the doctor who made Kate Walsh famous (and gave her her own spin off) and who had already reappeared in the previous season, will now do so more frequently. And on the other hand, Jackson Avery. Yes, the fans’ request was heard and the famous surgeon played by Jesse Williams will return as a guest in a very special episode, entitled “When I Get to the Border” and that will also have him behind the scenes, making his directorial debut.

Conflicts will continue to escalate in depth, both labor (the Gray Sloan Memorial is facing one of its biggest institutional crises) and, especially, personal ones, exploring the bonds of friendship and couples like few other fictions today. It should be remembered that Grey’s Anatomy is a pioneering series on gender issuesmost likely thanks to its great team of authors and showrunners.

As is the tradition in the series, all the episodes of this season have the title of a song. That includes, of course, “I’ll Follow the Sun,” the song by the Beatles, a band that also provided the name for the very first episode of 2005, “A Hard Day’s Night.” Another fact to keep in mind: only once that tradition was not respectedit was in season 14 with the episode “1-800-799-7233”which is nothing more than the special telephone number for victims of gender violence (the episode touched on this delicate problem).

Krista Vernoff He continues as showrunner, a role he assumed definitively in 2017, broadening the gaze and complexity of its original author, Shonda Rhimes. Krista is also the showrunner of the second spin off of the series, Station 19, which will be premiering its new season on Tuesday, January 17 (at the end of the new episode of Grey’s Anatomy).

“Embrace the changes”. That’s what Krista tells us for this new and long-awaited season that will bring five new residents, with new conflicts, encounters and emotions on the surface. They are:

Simone Griffin. Played by Alexis Floyd (Inventing Anna), this new resident will be linked by a strong history of pain to the hospital.

Luke Adams. Niko Terho’s character was always the black sheep of his family, a circumstance that he managed to balance with his charm and natural appeal. He now he must prove his worth as a surgeon.

Mika Yasuda. Played by Midori Francis, she comes from a very large family, where she always had to fight to excel, being the perfect student in everything.

Jules Millin. Raised in a bohemian and hippie family that also had serious addiction problems, the resident played by Adelaide Kane is the one who is most willing to break the rules.

Daniel “Blue” Kwan. Played by Harry Shum Jr., this future surgeon is the definition of competitive spirit. Resourceful and brilliant, he is determined to leave behind a strong family crisis by dint of hard work and effort.
