William Shatner will visit space in October. “I’m Captain Kirk and I’m scared of going into space,” he admits.
As Captain Kirk he visited space many times, now it is actor William Shatner (90) himself turn: The “Spaceship Enterprise” star will fly into space in October. The 90-year-old talked about this once-in-a-lifetime experience at the New York Comic Con. “I’m scared,” he quotes, among other things. “I’m Captain Kirk and I’m scared of going into space.” The feeling come and go “like a summer flu”.
Shatner also explained to the audience how he envisions his flight: “You have three minutes to look into the abscess of space and the beauty of the oasis of the earth. I plan to press my nose to the window. My only hope is that no one else is looking back, “he joked.
“Nobody will care that Captain Kirk is going into space”
The idea first came up in a conversation with his friend and producer Jason Ehrlich, as the actor continued. Ehrlich told him a year and a half ago that rockets would be sent into space with people. “Wouldn’t it be something if Captain Kirk went up there?” Asked the producer. Shatner replied, “Jason, for God’s sake, no one will care that Captain Kirk goes into space. That was 55 years ago.” The current media interest in Shatner’s flight into space should prove him wrong.
William Shatner will take off on October 12th with Blue Origin, the space company of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos (57). At the age of 90, the actor will be the oldest person to have ever flown in space. With him, Audrey Powers, Vice-President of Blue Origin, as well as former NASA engineer Chris Boshuizen and entrepreneur Glen de Vries will ascend into orbit. Shatner played his well-known role as Captain Kirk in the series “Raumschiff Enterprise” from 1966 to 1969 and in seven “Star Trek” films between 1979 and 1994.
