Jan Josef Liefers: He was in the Corona intensive care unit

Jan Josef Liefers criticized the Corona policy in the spring. Now he worked in an intensive care unit – and reported dramatic scenes.

Together with 50 other German actors and actresses, “Tatort” star Jan Josef Liefers (57) criticized the Corona measures and the supposed scare tactics of the media in the spring. The ironic clips of the #allesdichtmachen campaign caused a sensation and incomprehension.

A little later, some stars rowed back – including Liefers. He said he wanted to do a shift in a corona intensive care unit. Now his hospital assignment took place. the actor describes his traumatic experiences.

“All young, from 28 to 48 years old”

According to Liefers, his early shift as an “intern” in an intensive care unit was two weeks ago. “All Covid patients here in intensive care were seriously ill, closer to death than life. All young, from 28 to 48 years old. All unvaccinated,” explains the 57-year-old. “Also the two heavily pregnant women whose children were fetched in an emergency operation and live while the mothers did not make it, as I now know.”

The actor could not help much. He was only able to make himself useful when moving, “packed in additional protective clothing, with an FFP2 mask and a kind of diving goggles on his eyes”. Doctors and nurses had agreed that no one would lie here with a corona vaccination.

Jan Josef Liefers “does not give medical advice”

He himself was never afraid of Corona, “but also never of a vaccination”. He got an explanation of how the mRNA vaccine works and finally decided to use it. Liefers tolerated the vaccination well: “Sore muscles-like pain around the puncture site, that was all.”

The actor does not want to start a vaccination appeal: “I advocate vaccination of adults, absolutely clear case. But I do not give medical advice, I am just telling my story.” Everyone has to make the decision themselves.

Counter-action “Everybody do a shift”

Emergency physician Carola Holzner responded to #allesdichtmachen with a counter-campaign in the spring. With “Everybody doing a shift”, she specifically asked the stars who had produced one of the videos to get an idea of the current situation in German intensive care units. “I’ve already registered,” Liefers told “Die Zeit” at the time.

He was not allowed to work in the intensive care unit at the Essen University Hospital. The actor received a rebuff from clinic director Professor Jochen A. Werner in April 2021. “Definitely not an issue for us,” he said in the podcast “19 – the DUB chief visit”.
