“Right now I’m working on Indiana Jones 5, which Harrison Ford, who is quite a bit younger than me, I think has announced will be his last movie. So, I thought: if Harrison can do it, then maybe I can do it too,” he said.
However, in a special appearance alongside Steven Spielberg Last week (January 12), Williams revealed that he has changed his mind.
When asked if he was really retiring from movies, Williams replied: “Well, Steven is many things. He’s a director, he’s a producer, he’s a studio head, he’s a writer, he’s a philanthropist, he’s an educator. One thing he’s not, he’s a man you can say ‘no’ to,” implying that he would be open to working on future projects with Spielberg.
“You never told me that before today,” Spielberg responded. “SWe always said that we would retire at the same time. So if he ain’t leaving, I guess neither am I. I have to get to work, to figure out what the hell I’m going to do next.”
Williams went on to say (as reported by Variety): “I turned 90 and met a woman my age in Boston. She was a very nice lady, exactly the same age as me, and I told her, the greatest decade in a man’s life is from 80 to 90, if you’re in health, because if you make it to 90, there’s a huge trade-off. . You see everything with such a magnetic vision that you recognize that the most beautiful thing in the world are Peruvian butterflies. There is nothing more beautiful than that. And that’s the best decade. And she said, ‘No, the best decade in a person’s life is 90 to 100.’ So I’ll be staying for a while.”
“But also, I told myself you can’t retire from music. ‘It’s like breathing. It’s my life’. So a day without music is a mistake.”he added.
