Mario Adorf made several films alongside Gina Lollobrigida. Now he said goodbye to the Italian film icon.
Italian acting icon Gina Lollobrigida died in Rome on January 16 at the age of 95. Now her former colleague Mario Adorf (92) said goodbye to the once “most beautiful woman in the world”. Lollobrigida became a world star in the 1950s thanks to her roles in “Fanfan, der Hussar” or “Die Schönen der Nacht”. Adorf shot several times alongside Lollobrigida in the 1960s and 1970s, including the 1972 film adaptation of “Herzbube”.
“I was lucky enough to shoot with her a few times, remember her as a colleague without star airs who was not above cooking spaghetti for her colleagues after work.”
Mario Adorf: “Bye Gina, bye unforgettable Lollo!”
He admired her because she was not under the protection of a major producer like other Italian female superstars. Lollobrigida went “her own often difficult path” and retained her “remarkable beauty” even into old age. “Today I only have to call out to her lovingly: ‘Ciao Gina, ciao unforgettable Lollo!'” Mario Adorf continued.
