Saxony’s prime minister cashes in – for a good cause. The job at the checkout is “tough,” he says.
Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer (CDU) cashed in customers in a Görlitz supermarket for almost half an hour on Thursday. “Have a nice day,” he said, standing behind the cash register, to the mostly older people on their way. He quickly scanned the goods on the belt to make as much sales as possible – for a good cause. With some things like bread or rolls he was highly concentrated because identification numbers had to be typed into the cash register.
It’s “a tough job,” he said after venturing into a completely different profession. When asked by a reporter which is better, governing or cashing in, Kretschmer replied: “Everyone has their profession.” But everything you do “must be done with enthusiasm, with attitude and with a smile on your face”. His commitment is part of a nationwide charity campaign that the discounter has been doing for years: Kretschmer made sales of 230 to 250 euros for a local Caritas family get-together in the Rauschwalde district.
