Season 2 was greenlit in September 2021, with HBO Max promoting that the first season had achieved a “record audience” for the streaming platform. The second season debuted in December 2022.
“So here’s the tidbit: It is with the heaviest heart that I have to announce that GOSSIP GIRL will not continue on HBO Max,” the series’ showrunner wrote. joshua safran On Instagram.
“The executive producers and I will always be grateful to the network and the studio for their faith and support; the writers for their devious brains and dexterous talent; the cast of superstars for being the greatest of collaborators and friends; and the team for their hard work, dedication and love for the project. Honestly, this was the best set I’ve ever worked on, from top to bottom. We’re currently looking for another home, but in this climate, that could prove to be a bottle uphill, and if this is the end of it, at least we’re out on the highest of heights. Thanks for watching, and I hope you tune in to the finale next Thursday to see how it all comes together.”
Gossip Girl is based on the series of the same name that ran on the CW for six seasons from 2007 to 2012, which itself was based on the novels by Cecily von Ziegesar.
The revival follows a new generation of New York private school teenagers who are drawn into social surveillance eight years after the blogger’s website from the original series went dark. Season 2 began during the second semester of her junior year, with Gossip Girl leaving no stone unturned in her effort to control the scandalous lives of Manhattan’s elite.
