ZDF mourns the loss of its former head of entertainment, Wolfgang Penk (1938-2023). The television producer died on January 18 at the age of 84 in Bad Zwischenahn, Lower Saxony. .
From “bet that…?” to “dream ship”
Penk was born on April 3, 1938 in Berlin. After studying music, he initially worked in the film industry before he went to Second German Television. He first worked for the station as a production assistant for events and shows. Penk was then involved in the development of important programs, including “Wetten, dass…?”, “Das Traumschiff”, “Die Schwarzwaldklinik” and “Das Erbe der Guldenburgs”.
During his long time at ZDF, Penk was, among other things, editor-in-chief of the show department, main editor-in-chief and later also responsible for the entertainment word department. In 1991 he left ZDF to found Wolfgang Penk TV-Productions GmbH. The company also developed and produced well-known programs such as “Dalli Dalli” or “Ein Herz für Kinder”.
