Lotto-Chico: Gangsters steal 10,000 euros from his account

Ever since Kürsat Yildrim, aka Chico, won the lottery, he has been keen to show off his wealth. Apparently, this made him the target of criminals.

Rarely has a lottery win been celebrated as publicly as in the case of Kürsat Yildirim. Since the Dortmunder won almost ten million euros in November, he has been sharing his nickname Chico with the whole of Germany as he buys luxury cars or goes on a shopping spree with celebrities. But even with the negative consequences he is now refreshingly transparent.

Because the new millionaire was just a victim of criminals, as he admitted to “Bild am Sonntag”. Unknown persons had stolen money from his account since Thursday evening. A total of EUR 10,000 was withdrawn from his account in six transactions within six hours. This is shown by a bank statement that Chico submitted to the newspaper. In the morning he had noticed the loss and immediately reported it.

Systematically ransacked Chico’s bank account

“I was at a loss, didn’t understand anything,” Chico reports from the moment he noticed the theft. The money had been debited from two Sparkasse branches in Frankfurt am Main. “I’ve never been there,” assures the victim. The gangsters proceeded systematically. Around 6 p.m. on Thursday, they withdrew 2,000 euros from a branch in Eschersheim for the first time, then around 8 p.m. two more withdrawals of 2,000 and 1,000 euros followed within a minute. Then the daily limit was reached. It continued just after midnight. In the Mainzer Landstraße two more 2000 and once 1000 euros were withdrawn.

It is not yet fully clear how the theft could have happened. But Yildrim has a clear suspicion. When he was in Turkey for a TV documentary at the beginning of the year, his card was confiscated by a machine in Istanbul, he reports to “BamS”. The replacement card ordered from his Dortmund bank never arrived. The victim is certain that the criminals must have intercepted them together with the PIN letter. “It couldn’t have happened otherwise. I’m just glad that a maximum of 5,000 euros can be withdrawn from my account a day.”

Dark side of wealth

However, according to a lawyer, the money is not gone. Because the person who was stolen did not make any mistakes, such as picking up the PIN and card together, the bank is responsible for the loss, the newspaper quotes the expert’s assessment. The lottery lucky guy should get his money back soon.

Yildrim had previously celebrated his lottery win in a very public way, repeatedly showing himself on the Internet and on TV programs with his luxury cars such as a Ferrari or a Porsche. However, he also invested part of the profits in business or supported a local football club. The public made him interesting for criminals beforehand: he was used for a fraud campaign on Instagram without his knowledge.
