Good theatrical summer in Mar del Plata, but it will not become a record

The most attractive in Mar del Plata is “Divorce”, with Luciano Castro, Natalie Pérez, Pablo Rago and Carla Conte, written and directed by Nelson Valente; in second place is “Claro que sí”, with the character of Jeny, the Paraguayan, created by Waly Iturriaga (from the Marcelo Tinelli program), in third place “Drácula, el musical”, at Radio City; fourth “Perdimentamente” and fifth “Sex”, both by José María Muscari.

The record numbers of the theatrical summer in CABA augur an excellent season for 2023. So far this year, 70,000 seats have been sold in the first half of January against the 180,000 or 200,000 that were coming in the entire Buenos Aires summer season. The ranking of the most viewed is headed by “Married with children”, which fills the Great Rex. This was foreseeable given the success of Telefé. That the public would want to see it live was discounted, but what is surprising is the phenomenon of ticket sales at a minimum of 7,000 pesos and a maximum of 12,000.

Rottemberg continued: “Full capacity halls and several sold-out shows make the summer statistics exceed. They are large theaters that were cinemas: the Gran Rex, the Opera, the Broadway and the Metropolitan. Until the Apollo, which was called Lorange. At that time, Luna Park prioritized boxing and nobody imagined a stadium for music in Villa Crespo like the Movistar Arena”.

In second place in Buenos Aires is “Les Luthiers” at the Opera, who announced their final farewell and strengthened their call, and third “Piaf” at the Liceo, which debuted in the middle of the year with Elena Roger and the same cast of the work premiered 13 years ago. The January billboard combines the popular with artistic quality, with “Parque Lezama” in fourth place, directed by Juan José Campanella, with Luis Brandoni and Eduardo Blanco. The theatrical offer that combines more revivals than premieres has a release in fifth place: “Tom, Dick and Harry” with Mariano Martínez and directed by Nicolás Cabré.

In sixth place is a work that strengthened with the seasons and continues to summon: “Dos locas de remate” with Soledad Silveyra and Verónica Llinás, in seventh “Brujas”, another classic that returned in a pandemic after 32 years, and for close with the highest grossing “Nudes”, “My mother, my girlfriend and I” and “Freud’s last session”.

In Carlos Paz, “A perfect plan” stands out in first place, with Pedro Alfonso and Paula Chávez (also from the Tinelli plant) followed by “Gordillo, amigo de lo ajeno”, with Miguel Martín; in third place “Fátima es mundial”, with Fátima Flores, fourth “Kinky Boots”, the musical with Federico Bal in the role played by Martín Bossi, and fifth “Sex”, by Muscari.

Consulted by this newspaper, the AADET reference in Carlos Paz, Carlos Sittoni, indicated: “The season so far is good, with levels similar to 2020 and an estimated 270,000 viewers if we continue with this average. Although we are far from the best seasons of 2013, 2014 or 2015, when we exceeded 300,000 viewers, there is a very good offer with 69 shows, including the weekly ones and those with more affordable tickets. There are always two or three works that are very detached from the rest, it is something that I see in my 38 years of activity in Carlos Paz”.
