The Corona year 2020 was also a difficult one for BMW. For the first half of this year, the Munich-based car manufacturer can now report a record value.
BMW drives out of the crisis with a strong increase in sales in the first half of the year.
1.34 million vehicles from the group brands BMW, Mini and Rolls-Royce mean both a sales increase of 39.1 percent compared to the previous year’s period, which was slowed down by Corona, as well as an absolute record for the Munich company, as they announced on Wednesday. Compared to the pre-crisis level from the first half of 2019, there is an increase of 7.1 percent.
The recovery was driven by strong growth in China as well as in Europe and the USA. The core brand BMW grew 39.9 percent to 1.18 million cars. With this, BMW also narrowly overtook its arch-rival Mercedes-Benz, whose core brand landed at 1.16 million cars.
“We are on course to achieve solid and profitable sales growth this year,” said Sales Director Pieter Nota. “It is particularly gratifying that we were able to more than double sales of our electrified vehicles.” It increased by 148.5 percent to 153,267 cars.
