Fox received a standing ovation at the end of the film and, during a question-and-answer session, was praised for raising $2 billion for research on the disorder.
“That number, as impressive as it is, kind of bothers me, because I thought we were done by now,” Fox said in response. “But science is hard.”
The actor maintained, however, that the progress has been measurable and that there is hope for the prevention of Parkinson’s in the future.
“People say, ‘But that will be after your time, are you okay with that?’” Fox wondered before answering his own question. “Yes that would be great. Just do it. I don’t care if I’m on the bus.”
In his documentary, Fox reveals that he initially turned to alcohol to cope with his Parkinson’s diagnosis..
“I didn’t know what was happening. I didn’t know what was coming. So what if she could have four glasses of wine and maybe a drink? He was definitely an alcoholic,” he added, though he reveals that now he “has gone 30 years without drinking.”
