The nominations for the US smear award (“Razzies”) for the worst performances in film biz were announced on Monday. Among them was the twelve-year-old rising star Ryan Kiera Armstrong (“Firestarter”). After severe criticism, the distributors withdrew Armstrong’s nomination.
US actress Drew Barrymore (47, “Charlie’s Angels”) sharply criticized those responsible: “I don’t like it, because she’s younger and it’s bullying,” Barrymore said on the “CBS Mornings” show. She was relieved that many people had criticized the nomination.
Industry journal Variety quoted a statement by Razzies founder John Wilson, in which he apologized and announced an age limit of 18 for nominations: “We never intended to bury anyone’s career,” he said Cineast.
The “Razzies” (short for Raspberry) were created by John Wilson in 1980 as a counterpart to the glamorous Academy Awards. They are awarded in categories such as “Worst leading actor” or “Worst film”. According to earlier information from the group, around a thousand members in the United States and other countries are voting. The “winners” are traditionally announced the day before the Oscar gala, which is scheduled to take place on March 12 this year. Among the nominees this year are Oscar winners Tom Hanks (66) and Jared Leto (51).
