William Shatner: His space trip has been postponed

William Shatner’s journey to the edge of space has yet to wait. Space travel was postponed due to high winds.

The eagerly awaited trip of the US actor William Shatner (90) to the edge of space has to wait a day. Strong winds in west Texas caused space company Blue Origin to postpone the trip.

The launch from the spaceport in Van Horn, Texas, originally planned for Tuesday, will now take place on Wednesday (October 13th) at 8:30 a.m., Blue Origin said in a statement on Sunday. “As part of today’s flight readiness check, the mission team confirmed that the vehicle met all mission requirements and the astronauts began their training today,” said Blue Origin. “The weather is the only factor that determines the start window.”

The National Weather Service predicted strong winds for the mountains north of Van Horn by Tuesday, and a weather warning was issued for the region on Sunday as gusts of up to 75 miles per hour were expected.

Oldest person on the edge of space

90-year-old Shatner would be the oldest person to travel into space when Blue Origin’s New Shepard 4 spacecraft, which consists of a rocket engine and capsule, hits the limit of space.

The suborbital mission called NS-18 means that the “Star Trek” legend will go where no ninety-year-old has been for just a few minutes.

Shatner was invited

Three other passengers will accompany William Shatner: Audrey Powers, vice president of missions and flight operations at Blue Origin, Glen de Vries, co-founder of the medical research platform Medidata, and Chris Boshuizen, a technology entrepreneur. The latter two paid for their tickets themselves, which are said to cost more than $ 250,000 each.

The actor, who became famous as Captain Kirk on “Starship Enterprise”, said on NBC’s “TODAY” show last week that he was invited on the trip. Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, 57, founder of Blue Origin, said Shatner was a “legend”.
