From February 16 to 22, 2023, the most important days of the fifth season are coming up. And to celebrate, you don’t always have to buy something new. Here are seven last-minute costumes made from regular clothes.
Of course, if you want to celebrate carnival, you need a disguise. But: It doesn’t always have to be the expensive costume from the shop. Often you already have the basics for a nice disguise in your closet or spontaneously buy something that you can use again later. These parts can be spiced up a bit and then you can get into the hustle and bustle – without much effort. We have ideas for seven last minute costumes made from regular clothes.
1. Carnival costume: athlete
A lot of us have jogging suits, a or other sportswear in the closet. Perfect for the last-minute carnival costume, which can also be used later in everyday life. In the fifth season you can also exaggerate a bit: with sweatbands, soccer shoes and the ball under your arm, for example. Or you can borrow the old-school jogger from your parents or relatives – the eye-catching panel is ready.
2. Carnival Costume: Ghost
If you don’t feel like something elaborate, you can simply go to carnival as a ghost. Just an old one get it the right size, cut in eyes and you have a costume. You don’t have to worry about hair and the like.
3. Carnival Costume: Agent
If you want to make the carnival party unsafe as an agent, you only have to rummage in the closet: black top, black (artificial), black leather trousers, black gloves and dark sunglasses. Almost everyone has that in their closet and looks great as a disguise.
4. Carnival Costume: Hippie
But it also works in colour: many people probably have a colorful patterned skirt, a colorful tie or something similar in their closet. You can easily make a carnival costume out of it. Simply combine the colorful pieces with pieces of jeans, fringes, round sunglasses and a headband, if you have, you can also use jewelry with peace signs, flowers or similar. The hippie look for the carnival party is ready.
5. Carnival costume: Grandma/Grandpa
For this costume you can pay a visit to your grandparents and ask them if you can rummage through their wardrobe. Corduroy trousers and the like are of course particularly suitable. Spice up the vintage clothing with accessories such as glasses with thick lenses or hair curlers and you’re ready for carnival.
6. Carnival costume: gender swap
Of course, it is particularly easy if you simply use your partner’s or friends’ wardrobe and dress up as the opposite sex. Men put on dresses and tights, women can grab suits and ties and simply have a costume for carnival. It doesn’t need more than that and you can already use clichés. Because of course fashion has no gender.
7. Carnival costume: cat
This costume is not that difficult either: You can even dress normally, put on a fluffy jacket at the end, sit down – if you have – or make them yourself from a headband and two fabric triangles and paint the little hairs on your face. And fun is much more important than the perfect costume anyway.
