Health Minister Jens Spahn is currently not talking too well about his cabinet colleague Heiko Maas. The foreign minister had demanded that all corona restrictions end in August.
Could all corona restrictions possibly be lifted in the next month? Jens Spahn (CDU) dampens the hope of a quick end to all measures. “In August, not everyone, even everyone who wants to have received a second vaccination, for example,” said the Federal Minister of Health on Wednesday on Deutschlandfunk, referring to the gap between the first and second vaccinations. Spahn contradicted Foreign Minister Heiko Maas (SPD), who expects the lifting of all restrictions “in the course of August”.
Spahn said it was in principle “of course correct that many requirements can gradually fall when everyone has received a vaccination offer, especially when as many as possible have been vaccinated”. He was, however, surprised at “who sometimes speaks up,” said the CDU politician, referring to Maas. “We have to be careful not to get confused,” he added.
Jens Spahn: It is still difficult to define specific goals
Spahn advocated “not working with data now”, but with the aim of ensuring that as many citizens as possible decide in favor of a vaccination, the minister added. When the vaccination rate is as high as possible, “we can see how we then deal with it”. He thinks it is difficult to name specific target points now.
Spahn emphasized that anyone who wanted to could get a first vaccination in July. At the moment, vaccination is not about a lack of knowledge, but rather about a “lack of opportunity”. It is therefore important to make low-threshold offers, for example on marketplaces or sports fields.
Heiko Maas: There are no justifications for restrictions
Federal Foreign Minister Maas pleaded on Tuesday for the lifting of all corona restrictions as soon as all people in Germany had received a vaccination offer. Then there would be “no longer any legal or political justification for any restriction,” said the SPD politician. That is to be expected “in the course of August”.
