Film: Hayek on a long-unfulfilled desire for a role: Today I laugh

Sexy and funny – to the chagrin of the Hollywood star, that didn’t go together for a long time. But now the latest comedy with Salma Hayek is coming to cinemas this week.

According to her own statements, Hollywood star Salma Hayek has not had any funny roles for a long time. “All my life I wanted to do comedy and people didn’t give me comedy,” the 56-year-old told GQ magazine. It was her acting colleague Adam Sandler who brought her in front of the camera for the comedy “Kindsöpfe”, which he wrote. “I couldn’t land a role until I met Adam Sandler, but then I was over 40!”.

Previously, she was only cast for a certain guy, says Hayek. “They said, ‘You’re sexy, so you can’t have a sense of humor,'” the actress explained. “Not only are you forbidden to be smart, you weren’t allowed to be funny in the ’90s.”

At the time, she was sad, Hayek said. “But now I’m here doing every genre at a time when I’ve been told I’ve been out of business for the last 20 years. So I’m not sad, I’m not angry; I’m laughing.” Her latest comedy “Magic Mike – The Last Dance” hits theaters on Thursday.
