Disney+ censored a chapter of The Simpsons in Hong Kong

The episode’s absence comes amid concerns about increasing government censorship in China.

The news was first reported by The Financial Times, which noted that it’s unclear exactly when the episode was removed from the service or by whom. The Chinese government denies the forced labor allegations.

“One Angry Lisa” marks the second episode of The Simpson which is not available in Disney+ in Hongkong. In 2021, Disney+ Hong Kong subscribers reported that the 2005 episode “Goo Goo Gai Pan,” which referenced the 1989 Tiananmen Square massacre in Beijing, was not available on the service.

On that occasion, the withdrawal of the episode already led to criticism being launched against Disney for his attitude towards the Chinese government, highlighting the interests that the conglomerate has in the country.
