Morrissey says his old record company is sabotaging his new album

Today (February 7) Morrissey has claimed on his website that Capitol refuses to release “Bonfire Of Teenagers” or return the album to him. His statement also hinted that he believes the label signed him for the express purpose of sabotaging the album’s release.

“Morrissey is ‘too diverse’ for Universal Music Group”the statement said. “Capitol Records (Los Angeles), after all, will not be releasing Morrissey’s 2021 album ‘Bonfire Of Teenagers’. At the same time, Capitol Records (Los Angeles) is holding on to the album.

“Although Morrissey is officially signed to Capitol Records Los Angeles, there has been no mention of Morrissey on Capitol’s website or on their artist list.

“Morrissey has said that while he doesn’t believe Capitol Records in Los Angeles signed ‘Bonfire of Teenagers’ to sabotage it, he is quickly coming to terms with that belief.”

The singer referred to an article by the writer Fiona Dodwell about himself and his current situation: “He has been continually criticized and crucified in the press for being outspoken. Viewed this way, it seems that being ‘diverse’ today really means conforming, or facing rejection. You can be diverse, but only this way, not that way,’ the fine print seems to say,” Dodwell wrote.

The article shared Morrissey’s previously expressed views on diversity initiatives in the arts and culture more broadly. Morrissey recently said that diversity “is just another word for conformity.”.
