Britain’s Royal Mail has unveiled its design for the new stamps featuring the face of King Charles III. presented. The new stamps are set to go on sale from April 4, the British Post announced on Wednesday. Like his mother Queen Elizabeth II, the monarch can be seen in profile like a silhouette. However, unlike his mother, Charles does not wear a crown on it.
However, many customers are likely to continue to be sold postage stamps with the face of the Queen, who died in September, in post offices after the beginning of April. “The King has given very clear instructions that he does not want things to be shredded and stocks thrown away,” said the Royal Mail’s David Gold. “He said very clearly that no matter how long it takes to deplete stocks, there is no rush.” This is consistent with Charles’ beliefs as an environmentalist.
When it came to design, the king opted for continuity. Since “Penny Black” – the first postage stamp worldwide in 1840 with Queen Victoria – the monarchs on British postage stamps have always been seen from the left in profile.
