Arnold Schwarzenegger: He mourns the loss of his fitness idol Kurt Marnul

Arnold Schwarzenegger mourns the loss of one of his idols. Bodybuilder Kurt Marnul has died at the age of 94.

If the Graz bodybuilder legend Kurt Marnul hadn’t existed, who knows what would have become of Arnold Schwarzenegger (75). The bodybuilder and Hollywood star mourns his idol on social media.

“Kurt Marnul, one of my first fitness idols, has died,” writes the 75-year-old. Schwarzenegger’s thoughts are with the family of the deceased. The former “Mr. Universum” describes to his followers how he became aware of Marnul – and how he met him.

From newspaper clipping to bench press

Schwarzenegger can still remember the day when his teacher gave him the sports page of a newspaper at school. At that time he was supposed to choose a printed story and write an essay about it. “I saw this guy in glasses set a bench press record – and I wrote how someone who looked like a professor from neck to top benched 400 pounds.”

The class laughed at that line at the time, but Schwarzenegger explains that his interest in weightlifting was no joke. That same summer, he and his friends first met Marnul, who was kind to the boys, even though he was “Mister Austria” and they were just “little teenagers” who were just getting started. Marnul was a kind of leader for her little “weightlifting tribe”. He created a program for the young people and inspired them. Because of people like Marnul, Schwarzenegger does not want to call himself a “self-made man”.

According to one, Marnul died at the age of 94. Among other things, he founded a club for bodybuilders in 1958 and was “Mister Austria” several times.
