John Lawton: Ex-Uriah Heep singer died surprisingly

The hard rock band Uriah Heep mourns the loss of their former singer John Lawton. He died “suddenly and completely unexpectedly” at the age of 74.

The British hard rock band Uriah Heep has announced the death of their former front man and singer John Lawton. Accordingly, Lawton died “suddenly and completely unexpectedly” at the age of 74 on June 29, 2021. The current members added that, contrary to reports to the contrary, Lawton did not suffer from any illness. This would make his demise even more incomprehensible.

He died peacefully at the side of his wife and will be missed very much in the future. At the request of the deceased and his family, there will only be a funeral service in a private setting. “We would appreciate it if the family’s privacy was respected during these difficult times,” added the band.

Größter Hit war “Lady in Black”

Lawton was the singer for the band from 1976 to 1979. His voice can be heard on a total of four studio albums. Uriah Heep was founded in 1969 and had its most commercially successful period in the 1970s. Probably the band’s biggest hit is the rock ballad “Lady in Black”, which was sung by keyboardist Ken Hensley (1945-2020). The so far last album “Living the Dream” was released in 2018. Of the original members, only lead guitarist and singer Mick Box (74) is part of the party.
