Designer Harald Glööckler has filed for divorce. In an interview he spoke about the background to the separation from his husband.
“At some point you have to admit that it just doesn’t work anymore”: Designer Harald Glööckler, 57, talked about the reasons for the divorce from Dieter Schroth, 74. The couple, who had been together for 35 years, got married in 2015.
Glööckler has been living separately from his husband for a year, and now he has decided “that I want to bring this separation to an end – by applying to the district court to dissolve our registered civil partnership”.
In the interview, the designer also explained: “Our love became a kind of attachment because one wanted to hold on to the other. Eventually we became used to each other so that our relationship was really just a shared apartment. We have together, but we didn’t live together. And today I know that closeness can also alienate.” Elsewhere, he told the paper that he “desperately wanted my relationship to work. And I didn’t want to admit that it didn’t work. But the truth is that I’ve been unhappy in my relationship for the past ten years.”
