‘Magic Mike 3’ star Channing Tatum shares awkward first encounter with Matt Damon

When he first met Matt Damon, Channing Tatum made a fool of himself. The actor revealed this in an interview.

Superstar Channing Tatum (42) can currently be admired in German cinemas with the trilogy conclusion “Magic Mike – The Last Dance”. Tatum now recalled a first encounter with Hollywood star Matt Damon (52), which he found embarrassing, a few years ago. In 2011, Tatum was in front of the camera for the thriller “Haywire” by his “Magic Mike” director Steven Soderbergh (60). At the end of a day of shooting, he was sitting with Soderbergh in a hotel bar in Albuquerque, New Mexico, when he met Damon.

Channing Tatum: ‘Everyone knows where Matt Damon is from’

The star of such films as ‘Ocean’s Eleven’ (2001) and ‘The Bourne Identity’ (2002) turned up at the bar to see director Soderbergh. Since Tatum was and still is “such a fan” of Damon, he said he was “excited” when he saw him. So he sat down next to Damon and asked him where he was from. However, the “Magic Mike” star found his own question immediately embarrassing because “everyone on the planet knows where Matt Damon is from”.

Just like his fellow actors Mark Wahlberg (51) and Ben Affleck (50), the 52-year-old comes from the Boston area. He was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, a city that directly borders the east coast metropolis. This fact should be known to a number of people, at least in the USA.

“Magic Mike” star Tatum found his own question so embarrassing that he couldn’t say a word “for the next two hours”. “I still think about it today,” Tatum said. In general, the star wouldn’t particularly like “meeting famous people or people he admires.” Because he would occasionally “panic” in conversations.

Matt Damon gave no sign

However, superstar Damon simply replied, “Oh, I’m from Boston. Where are you from?” as if nothing special had happened, while Tatum said he internally yelled, “I’m sorry, I’m sorry.”
