In the lockdown, IT articles and technical office products were the best sellers. They brought strong growth to the industry, as announced by the gfu association.
In the corona crisis year 2020, the market for home electronics in Europe grew particularly strongly. With a turnover of 323 billion dollars (274 billion euros), the industry recorded an increase of 12 percent, as the association gfu reported in Frankfurt on Wednesday.
Globally, sales rose by only 3.2 percent to 1.26 trillion dollars (1.07 trillion euros) and even declined slightly in the largest single market, Asia and Oceania.
In particular, IT articles and technical office products were in high demand during the lockdown and grew at an above-average rate of 22 percent worldwide. Smartphones and other telecommunications items (-6 percent) as well as classic consumer electronics including photos (-3 percent) were bought less.
