“Look, this is crazy,” Frake-Waterfield told AFP. “I have had requests to stop it. I have received death threats. I’ve had people say they called the police.”.
Frake-Whitfield is one of the first in Hollywood to take advantage of the expiration of copyrights in AA Milne’s books, which until recently were held by Disney. Hence her particular interpretation of her beloved children’s characters.
Under US law, copyright expires 95 years after a work is first published. the first book of “Winnie the Pooh” came out in 1926.
The first images of blood and honey, in which the sinister, human-sized Pooh and Piglet loomed menacingly behind a young woman relaxing in a hot tub, quickly went viral last year. And the movie’s trailer has confirmed that it is anything but a kids’ movie.
The film has already arrived in theaters in Mexico, where it has raised almost a million dollars in two weeks. This has some industry analysts already pointing to it going down as one of the most profitable movies of all time.
Frake-Waterfield originally hoped that his film “could do a mini theatrical presentation in certain areas”. However, she now believes she could achieve the highest “budget to box office ratio” since Paranormal activitythe $15,000 movie that launched a nearly $1 billion franchise more than a decade ago.
“He really believed in the idea. Other people didn’t…and now it’s all good,” she joked.
