After a few short hospital stays recently, no further medical treatment would be given from now on. This decision was made by the seriously ill Carter himself, a charity founded by the democratic politician. He wants to spend the rest of his time with his family.
Both his medical team and his family would support this decision, the statement said. Jimmy Carter was the 39th President of the United States from 1977 to 1981 and was succeeded after just one term by his Republican opponent Ronald Reagan (1911-2004). He is the oldest living former US President. Carter has been suffering from cancer for years, which he made public in 2015. He was first diagnosed with skin cancer, but it had already spread to the liver and brain.
