Daniel Kwan (35) and Daniel Scheinert (35) were awarded the night on Sunday by the Directors Guild of America (DGA) in Los Angeles.
Kwan and Scheinert prevail against Hollywood veteran Steven Spielberg (“The Fabelmans”), Martin McDonagh (“The Banshees of Inisherin”), Todd Field (“Tàr”) and Joseph Kosinski (“Top Gun: Maverick”).
Charlotte Wells won the prize for the best directorial debut for “Aftersun”. In addition to the Scottish, the French director Alice Diop (“Saint Omer”) and Audrey Diwan (“The Event”) were in the race.
The DGA trophies were awarded for the 75th time. The prices are considered an indicator of the later Oscar ceremony. Last year, the New Zealand director Jane Campion (“The Power of the Dog”) first won the DGA Prize and then the director Ocar.
