According to sources close to the project, the King asked the team behind the event to contact the two musicians to try to get them involved.
Sheeran was unable to attend the concert due to logistics and previous tour commitments, while Adele did not respond to the request.
“He was very interested in them being a part of the concert… There is a team set up for talent to sign up, so they reached out to both of them, but got responses saying they weren’t available, which was a huge disappointment. They are titans of the entertainment industry and are quintessentially British, but also known around the world. It’s a shame,” a source told the aforementioned media.
Although no names have been confirmed for the concert as of yet, promoted names include lionel richiethe Spice Girls and Harry Styles.
The concert will be broadcast on BBC TV, radio and online, and as confirmed by the British channel a line-up that will feature “musical icons and contemporary stars”, which is yet to be confirmed.
