The prize is aimed at international cartoonists and is dedicated this year to the topic of climate. The awards will be presented on May 11th in the Schlossmuseum Linz.
The idea came from Christoph Haderer, the artist’s son and managing director of the school. In the main category “Climate Change” a total of 4000 euros in prize money will be paid out, first place is endowed with 2500 euros. Caricature can make a major contribution to climate protection by making grievances visible and inspiring solutions, said Deputy Managing Director Julia Haderer yesterday at the presentation.
In addition, the Linz law firm Haslinger/Nagele awarded the special prize “Caricature and Law” endowed with 2,500 euros. Here, too, the focus with “Climate Justice” is on climate change with questions about those responsible and those who suffer.
Submissions until March 31st
In addition to the caricaturist Haderer, the international jury for the “Kaktus Cartoon Award” includes author Stefanie Sargnagel and directors of caricature museums in Austria, Germany and France. In addition, the lawyer Michaela Krömer, who represents young people in their lawsuits before the Constitutional Court against the federal government because of insufficient climate protection, was won. The cartoons will be shown in an exhibition in the Castle Museum from May 11th. A symposium on “Law and Caricature” will also be held at the JKU on May 11.
Work can be submitted to derkaktus.at by March 31st.
