Rapper Nipsey Hussle (1985-2019) was shot dead in the street on March 31, 2019. A judge in Los Angeles has now handed down the sentence of 60 years to life imprisonment. This is reported unanimously.
Two other men were injured
Hussle was shot dead outside a clothing store he founded in Los Angeles in 2019. Both the perpetrator and the victim grew up under similar conditions in a neighborhood south of the city. In July 2022, the man was also found guilty by a jury of two counts of attempted manslaughter and two counts of assault with a firearm. Two other men were shot at the scene – both survived.
The sentence is made up of several sentences: 25 years to life imprisonment for murder, 25 years to life imprisonment for using a firearm and another ten years for injuring the two other men.
fact was not disputed
It was almost certain beforehand that the offender would receive a heavy sentence. The evidence was overwhelming, for example there were recordings from surveillance cameras. The man did not deny the act, but his lawyers pleaded no intent – he acted in affect, it said. The prosecution and the jury saw it differently and recognized a methodical approach. According to media reports, the man did not react when his sentence was read. His attorney Aaron Jansen said he would appeal the verdict.
Nipsey Hussle, real name Ermias Asghedom, was known worldwide as a rapper, but he always remembered his origins. Growing up in Crenshaw, a district of Los Angeles, he campaigned for his area for a long time and, among other things, fought gang crime that was widespread there. The father of two was the founder of the label All Money In. He was posthumously awarded two Grammys in 2020.
