Princess Kate has been named Colonel of the Irish Guards. During the visit to the troops, there was also mine clearance training.
In freezing temperatures and snow, Princess Kate took part in an exercise on her first visit as a Colonel in the Irish Guards. King Charles III’s daughter-in-law, dressed in green combat fatigues, helped a paramedic with first aid to a gunshot wound on Wednesday.
The 41-year-old had inherited the honorary title “Colonel of the Irish Guards” from her husband, heir to the throne Prince William, who as Prince of Wales is now “Colonel of the Welsh Guards”.
Kate was then given a tour of the training ground near the southern English city of Salisbury and an introduction to mine clearance training that the Irish Guards are currently giving to Ukrainian soldiers. Battalion Commander Lt. Col. James Aldridge called Kate’s visit a special honor. “It is particularly fitting that some of our servicewomen meet such an inspiring female role model on International Women’s Day,” said Aldridge.
The Infantry Corps was established by Queen Victoria in 1900 and is one of the King’s five personal regiments.
