Thanks to the publication in Spanish of the private diary that madonna wrote during the 1990s, new details of the American diva’s trip to Argentina when he starred in “Evita”.
The “Queen of Pop” spent two months living in the country during the filming of the Alan Parker movie and he recounts in this newspaper the contact he had with the late ex-president Carlos Menem, whom he described as “charming.”
The singer’s writing, called “The Evita Diaries”, was published many years ago by Vanity Fair in English and now comes in a Spanish version.
Regarding the details of his meeting with then-president Carlos Menem, he said that “it was charming. I was surprised how well I liked him.”
“We sat down to talk. His eyes were analyzing every inch of me. A very seductive man. He told me that he saw me just like Evita, whom he had met when he was quite young,” the singer explained.
“We talked about my fanaticism for her. I did not take my eyes off it. I decided to play Menem some of the songs from the film so that he can understand the tone that we were trying to achieve,” he recalled.
“When I played her the new song, the one that Eva sings to Perón when she realizes that she is dying, I saw a tear fall from her eye. I grabbed Menem looking at the strap of my bra. He continued to do this all night with his piercing gaze, and every time he caught it, his eyes would stay with mine.” added.
As we said goodbye, “the president took my face with both hands, kissed me on both cheeks and wished me good luck,” he concluded.
