The US rapper Kanye West (44) can now officially call himself Ye. A court in Los Angeles approved his request for a name change, US media reported on Monday.
The musician submitted the application in August. According to the magazine “Rolling Stone”, the rapper made “personal reasons” for the name change. Accordingly, the artist name Ye now replaces his previous first and last name.
In September 2018, West introduced himself on Twitter as “I am YE”. He had previously released the album “Ye”. The musician, born in Chicago in 1977, last released the album “Donda”, named after his late mother.
Before the name change was announced, Kanye West made another stop in Berlin, as “Bild” reported on Tuesday. Accordingly, the rapper went shopping in a sushi restaurant and costume shops in the capital at the weekend.
The rapper has four children with his wife, Kim Kardashian West. The parents have been divorced since February.
