Can a diet with lots of fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains and fish actually prevent depression or can it alleviate existing depressive symptoms? Yes. This is shown by British researchers in a comprehensive meta-analysis that evaluated eleven studies with more than 100,000 participants.
According to this, there is a significant correlation between an anti-inflammatory diet and mental health: subjects with an unbalanced, inflammatory diet have a 40% greater chance of developing depressive symptoms compared to those who prefer the healthy Mediterranean diet.
