Cillian Murphy to star in a movie produced by Ben Affleck and Mat Damon

The Peaky Blinders star is embarking on his next project with the film adaptation of the novel Small Things Like These by Claire Keegan.

The star of the future oppenheimer, A Quiet Place Part II and Peaky Blinders, cillian murphyembarks on his next project with the film adaptation of the acclaimed novel Small Things Like These of Claire Keegan. Murphy will star in and produce the film that was greenlit by Artist Equity of Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, which will finance the project. Filming is already underway in Ireland.

Ciarán Hinds and Emily Watson they also star in the drama whose source material has been compared to a Dickens tale. The story takes place during Christmas 1985, when devoted father Bill Furlong (Murphy) discovers the shocking secrets of his hometown convent, as well as some shocking truths about his own life.

The project brings together the director Tim Mielants and Murphy, who previously worked together on Peaky Blinders. Enda Walsha long-time collaborator of Murphy’s, wrote the script.

For Artists Equity, Damon and Drew Vinton will produce; Affleck, Kevin Halloran and Michael Joe will serve as executive producers. Jeff Robinov will also produce.

Murphy said: “I am honored and excited to have the opportunity to bring Claire Keegan’s magnificent novel to the screen. We assembled a phenomenal team of creatives to make this film and found exceptional partners at AE, a studio run by Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, actors and filmmakers I have admired for many years.”

Small Things Like These it was published in 2021 by Grove Press and shortlisted for the 2022 Booker Prize and the Rathbones Folio Prize. It also won the Orwell Prize for Political Fiction, the Ambassadors Award for Best Irish Novel Published in France, and the Kerry Award for Irish Novel of the Year. She is now nominated for the Dublin Literary Prize, which is awarded annually for the world’s best novel written or translated into English.
